Renewal of a project to control bovine tuberculosis in the Pyreneess Pyrénées
The Bacterial Zoonoses Unit of ANSES's Laboratory for Animal Health, which is the National Reference Laboratory for tuberculosis, will be involved in the second part of a project to control bovine tuberculosis in the Pyrenees that will run from 2024 to 2027.
Following on from the first project conducted from 2020 to 2022, the Innotub-2 project will aim to develop tools to prevent the bacterium Mycobacterium bovis, responsible for bovine tuberculosis, from being transmitted to livestock. This bacterium continues to circulate in wild boar and badgers in the Pyrenees, and cases sometimes occur in cattle.
ANSES will be particularly involved in characterising the strains circulating in the region. This work will consist in carrying out genetic analyses to determine the origins of outbreaks and the transmission dynamics, in order to clarify the role played by each species in the circulation of the bacterium.
The Innotub-2 project is being coordinated by the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (NEIKER) and will involve French and Spanish partners. It will be funded by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra cooperation programme (POCTEFA).
